Walking in and around Fort William and Lochaber

Walking is one of the easiest, healthiest and least expensive activities to do. This Highland area provides the opportunity for everyone to enjoy walking at their own particular pace and energy.

From high-level ridge walking to strolling along lochsides there is something for everyone. Our nice Forestry people have created miles of easy going tracks and paths through mature pine and fir woodland to explore. The West Highland Way finishes its 95 mile route in Fort William at the entrance to Glen Nevis and the clean, unspoilt beaches on the west coast offer beach combing.

Most recently, the development of the Great Glen Way, which begins at Fort William and ends in Inverness, provides a very pleasant walking holiday over several days. En route walkers can enjoy life along the Caledonian Canal and along several fresh water lochs which make up part of the route on the Way.

The Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board have Visitor Information Centres throughout the area and can be relied on to provide high quality help and service. They can advice you on local suppliers and contacts, as well as arrange accommodation and provide you with the latest information about what's on.
