Watersports in and around Fort William and Lochaber
In a land where water of some sort is never far away, we are completely
spoiled for choice, when it comes to watersports.
Deep sea lochs, long inland freshwater lochs and a big choice of rivers
provide a playground for sailing and canoeing. We are particularly fortunate
that it is possible to sail at any state of the tide in the sea lochs
and for visiting yachts there are several places to tie up to or use a
visitor mooring. Out in the west at Arisaig visitor moorings and a small
pontoon welcome visiting yachts from around the world.
The local sailing and boating clubs, Lochaber Yacht Club and Glencoe
Boat Club enjoy fun regattas and often welcome visiting fleets for a championship
weekend. LYC is an established RYA sailing school for club members and
each year hold RYA certificate courses at Levels 1 - 4.
In the Great Glen local companies provide watersport holidays and cruises
and in Fort William a diving centre provides courses for sports diving
and commercial mixed gas diving courses.
The Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board have Visitor Information Centres
throughout the area and can be relied on to provide high quality help
and service. They can advice you on local suppliers and contacts, as well
as arrange accommodation and provide you with the latest information about
what's on.
