Christmas holidays in Fort William and Lochaber

Christmas is a good time of year to visit the Fort William area. The roads are not busy and if the weather is reasonable, there are lots of low-level walks to do, cycling is perfectly reasonable to do, and of course you can just relax and enjoy a good film in your self catering accommodation or hotel.

Snow is not guaranteed at Christmas in Fort William, but if the weather has been cold for a week or so prior to Christmas, then the mountains should have lots of snow on them, and Nevis Range will be open for winter sports. You can watch the daily images on our Ben Nevis WebCam which looks over to Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor.

Travelling by road to Fort William in the winter months is mostly straight forward. However, when it is cold, hard frosts can make the roads slippy and therefore care should be taken. When it does snow, strong side winds can cause the snow to drift onto the roads. You can phone our local police for road conditions in Glencoe or call the RAC and AA before you begin your journey.
