A family hotel situated beside Loch Leven at the foot of the Mamore mountains. The ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday or for touring the West Highlands. |
Kinlochleven was once a tiny hamlet with a scattering of cottages.
In 1907 an aluminium smelter was built and a new village was born. Surrounded
by mountains and with an abundance of fresh water, Kinlochleven was an
ideal location for a hydro-powered factory. Aluminium production
stopped in 2000, but hydro generating continues.
New industries and tourism activities bring Kinlochleven many visitors
throughout the year. The Atlas Brewery produces a fine
range of cask conditioned beers from the old Carbon factory and tours
can be arranged.
Their beers are available in the village and in most good pubs in the
area. Next door the the brewery is a new ice climbing wall. The
Ice Factor
provides an interesting experience for the casual visitor and specifically
active rock or ice climbers.
The village has a variety of accommodation to offer visitors as well
as several bars and restaurants, a library and exhibition, and a number
of local stores. Locally, a number of pleasant walks and on opportunity
to explore the hydro dam system are all possible.
