We thought it appropriate, if you were going to walk up and down Ben Nevis - or any of our other superb mountains, you might like to know where to get a good pint of cask conditioned ale? One of the best things about Fort William is our local brewery, based in Kinlochleven - Atlas Brewery. This brewery is well known for its fantastic Latitude Ale - a pale golden, refreshing and hoppy real ale that goes down very well. It's only 3.6 ABV and makes an excellent session ale. Look out for its distinctive pale blue pump clip.

We know that Cobbs Bar and Restaurant in Fort William have agreed to stock and serve this superb ale all year round - together with a choice of 2-3 other cask ales, depending on customer demand. The Ben Nevis Inn at Achintee where the Ben Nevis mountain footpath begins usually stocks two Highland cask ales. Do ask for Atlas Latitude by name when looking for a local cask ale. Also in Glen Nevis - the Glen Nevis Restaurant bar offers one  cask ale which is usually Atlas Brewery's Three Sisters - another fine brew from Kinlochleven

At Roy Bridge The Stronlossit Inn looks after their cask ales and usually have  three beers on tap. They are just finishing off their new air-conditioned cellar to offer the very best beers possible. From Mallaig, a boat trip into Loch Nevis will take you to The Old Forge at Inverie where cask ales and good food are on offer - as well as an interesting visit to this remote area of the UK.

When drinking cask conditioned ale - insist on only the best - if your pint is served with condensation dripping down the outside of the glass, then it's far too cold and is not being served properly, and will have lost all the natural flavours which the brewer painstakingly added when he made it.
